World-leading climbers host Boardman Tasker fundraising event

We had a great event in Canmore, at the Library, where Barry Blanchard read from his new book and I spoke about Rock and my ascent of the Mazeino Ridge of Nanga Parbat.
There was a good turn out from the folks of Canmore, and it all went down well. The event was free with encouragement from us to donate to The Boardman Tasker Charitable Trust. Thank you for the generosity shown.

Thanks to Maria Coffey (BT Trustee) for setting up the event and in particular the local Canmore library for supporting and hosting it.

Barry Blanchard and Sandy Allan join forces to promote the future of mountain literature.

Winner of the 2015 Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature, Barry Blanchard, and shortlisted author Sandy Allan are hosting a fundraising event at Canmore Library, Alberta, to support the future of the Boardman Tasker Charitable Trust.

Sandy and Barry have both made outstanding contributions to mountain literature as well as to mountaineering itself. The Boardman Tasker trustees feel privileged that their books were entered for and shortlisted for the 2015 award, but they are overwhelmed by the generosity of both authors in offering to deliver a fundraising event to support the Trust.

Blanchard will be presenting his book The Calling: A Life Rocked by Mountains, an honest and visceral account in which he tells of a life devoted to climbing at the highest level, and Sandy Allan will be revealing the story behind his epic ascent of Nanga Parbat's Mazeno Ridge, retold in his debut book, In Some Lost Place. All donations contributed during the event will go to the Boardman Tasker Trust, ensuring that it can support mountaineering writers for many years to come. Signed copies of both books will be available to purchase on the night.

The event is taking place at 7.30 - 9 p.m. on 12th April 2016 at Canmore Library, 700 Railway Avenue, AB T1W 1P4. To book, contact 403 678 2468 (suggested donation $20)
